The talk surrounding Liverpool and their prospects this season has arguably been at its quietest in the Jurgen Klopp era.
It’s tough to call where the Reds are going to be come the end of the campaign across all fronts after what was a pretty underwhelming summer transfer window. They addressed a need by signing centre back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, a position which they really struggled to fill last season due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
However, all three are now back fit and available to play and despite speculation, there were no more incomings at Anfield. That was also despite the fact they lost Gini Wijnaldum on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, with Klopp instead relying on others in his squad in Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to fill that void.
Harvey Elliott looks set to play a big part in Liverpool’s season but they can only hope for so much from an 18-year-old. Klopp said last season that Champions League qualification would not make a huge change to their summer window plans and so that proved to be the case; they likely still would’ve signed Konate even if they were in the Europa League.
So, with much of the same squad as previously and others around them strengthening pretty significantly, where does that leave Liverpool across all competitions this season?

Below, we will be taking a closer look at Liverpool’s chances and odds of winning each of the four competitions that they are entered in this season.
Premier League – 9/2
As it currently stands, Liverpool are the third-favourites to win the Premier League this season behind Manchester City and Chelsea, but just ahead of Manchester United. Winners of the Premier League the season before last, Klopp’s side saw their title defence derailed by an injury-hit campaign that saw a number of their key players miss out on significant time through injury. Now that those names are back, there is an argument to be made that they have the strongest starting XI in the Premier League, though it is their depth where they perhaps lack in comparison to their rivals. They have made a solid start to this season, taking seven points from their opening three fixtures against Norwich, Burnley and Chelsea and face Leeds, Crystal Palace and Brentford in their next three. The Premier League will likely be the main target for Liverpool this season and it is impossible to overstate what an impact the return of van Dijk will have on the team. The Dutch defender won the PFA Player of the Year award in his last full season and is, in the eyes of many, still the best defender in the world.
Champions League – 9/1
When it comes to the Champions League, Liverpool are currently joint-fifth favourites to win the competition. Ranked ahead of Liverpool at the moment are Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, while they are also at a level price of 9/1 with rivals Manchester United. The Champions League was the first trophy won by Klopp at Anfield when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in Madrid back in 2019, coming after they defeated Bayern Munich, Porto and Barcelona in the knockout stages. Since then, they have been eliminated by Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in each of the next two seasons, going out in the Round of 16 and Quarter-Finals respectively. Liverpool have been drawn into a competitive group this season alongside Atletico Madrid, Porto and AC Milan, facing the latter in their opening match next week at Anfield. Champions League nights at Anfield are always special occasions and that famous atmosphere alone will always make Liverpool contenders in Europe, regardless of the opposition in their way.
FA Cup – 7/1
The FA Cup is a competition that Klopp has never particularly prioritised during his time as Liverpool boss, something which has often come as a frustration to supporters. Klopp regularly rotates his side significantly when FA Cup fixtures come around, something which has resulted in them getting past the fourth round just once in his tenure. Last season they were eliminated in the fourth round after losing 3-2 away to Manchester United at Old Trafford, a fixture which came during one of their most difficult spells of the season. The season before they were knocked out by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the fifth round and they could do with some more luck with the draw in the early stages of the competition if they are to make a first appearance in the quarter-finals under Klopp. Like the previous two competitions, both Manchester City and Chelsea are ahead of Liverpool with the oddsmakers.
League Cup – 9/1
The League Cup has become the Manchester City trophy in recent years, with Pep Guardiola’s team winning it in each of the last four seasons and six of the last eight overall. This competition tends to be at the bottom of Liverpool’s list of priorities and they are a wider 9/1 to win it behind, once again, Man City and Chelsea. Klopp enjoyed some early success in the League Cup during the first two seasons of his tenure, reaching the final and semi-final in his first two attempts where they were beaten by Man City and Southampton respectively. Since then, the Reds have twice been eliminated at the first hurdle in the third round and managed to reach the fifth round just once in four seasons. They have been drawn away to Norwich City in the third round of this year’s competition, with it being the sixth time in their last eight matches in the League Cup that has come against Premier League opposition.
