  1. Get them a new toy

Everyone loves new toys. Remember how happy we were when we got new toys for our birthday? To be fair, we still would be, it’s just our toys are slightly more expensive now and usually come in form of a new phone or console, but enough about us. Your dog will not cry over a new PlayStation, but will most certainly waggle its tail around if you get him a new ball or a chewing toy. If you feel like you’re out of great gifting ideas it could help to check this.

  1. Go for a walk

Even if you just say the word ‘walk’ in the vicinity of your dog their ears perk up, it’s a lovely thing to see. Dogs just love outdoors and walking around with their human friends. What you can do to spice things up on their special day is try and find a new trail for you guys to explore. Well, for them to explore, but that’s the whole point. Dogs just love being in new surroundings, sniffing around and getting familiar with the new place. If it so happens that the trail is kind of far from home, make sure you have a dish so your buddy can have some water. If you don’t have one, you can view more at Ultra Pet Shop.

  1. Play games

We’re sure you play daily with your dog, but we’re often tired and have work to do all day, so there’s not a lot of time to play around with our pet. So, take a day off or just celebrate on a weekend and spend all day playing with your dog. You can play fetch or throw frisbee until either your shoulder hurts or your dog is just refusing to go for another run. And we’re fairly certain the latter is never going to happen. It doesn’t have to be just that, you can play all kinds of fun games with your dog. Find a towel or a piece of rope and play a little tug of war with your dog. It’s fun and it builds strength and confidence. Don’t listen to any of those myths saying it’ll make your dog aggressive or make you seem weak if you let them win – it’s a good, fun and useful game.

  1. Go swimming

Most dogs enjoy swimming, so this might be a fun experience for them. Go to a local beach, or a lake or a pet-friendly pool if there are some in your area and have fun. Just make sure you keep an eye on your dog at all times. Follow basic safety protocols and you should be fine. Most dogs are great swimmers – it just doesn’t hurt to be careful. Also, make sure you give them a proper bath afterwards, especially after the pool.

  1. Get them a new friend

Like we’ve said, most of us are busy sometimes and our pets might get lonely if we don’t pay attention to them. So, why don’t get them a new buddy? Having two dogs is better than one. It’s double the fun and they get to enjoy each other’s company when you’re not around.

Anyway, whatever you decide to do for your dog’s birthday, one thing is certain – they’re going to love it. Go to a park or just cuddle with them while watching TV, if you love them as much as they love you, it’s more than enough for them.
